Zinc Textile Raval Espresso

Architecture and fabrics unite in this innovative collaboration between Zinc Textile and Antwerp based studio Dieter Vander Velpen Architects, whose noteworthy portfolio spans bespoke projects across the globe. In this meeting of surface and structure, the rhythmic patterns of natural materials influenced the organic shapes and playful mix of tactile qualities, including velvets and jacquards that play with the contrast of matt and shine. Showcasing Zinc’s eclectic design language and Dieter Vander Velpen Architects contemporary edge, little importance is placed on everything matching but more on everything matters. Subtle nods to Zinc’s classic glam glimmer through the architecturally inspired designs that pay homage to the patterns found in marble, travertine, wood and sculptural shapes.

Used in many Dieter Vander Velpen Architects projects, travertine is a natural stone with an unmistakable surface of decorative hollows and pits. This innovative design reflects these distinct markings, created through a soft velvet that stands proud of a lustrous jacquard ground. A gentle wash of print is applied to the pile giving the design a subtle movement in tone and typifies the movement found in travertine.



‘The moment when our world really blended with Zinc, is with the creation of Raval. The Zinc team started experimenting with the idea of the indentations found in a travertine stone and wanted to create a pattern out of this. I remember measuring the distance between the indents of the travertine to ensure the scale of the design was true to mother nature. It took a few iterations, but then we saw the trials of a beautiful velvet with the travertine print, which was almost animal skin in appearance, and it was amazing, it’s one of my favourites.’ Patricia
