Architecture and fabrics unite in this innovative collaboration between Zinc Textile and Antwerp based studio Dieter Vander Velpen Architects, whose noteworthy portfolio spans bespoke projects across the globe. In this meeting of surface and structure, the rhythmic patterns of natural materials influenced the organic shapes and playful mix of tactile qualities, including velvets and jacquards that play with the contrast of matt and shine. Showcasing Zinc’s eclectic design language and Dieter Vander Velpen Architects contemporary edge, little importance is placed on everything matching but more on everything matters. Subtle nods to Zinc’s classic glam glimmer through the architecturally inspired designs that pay homage to the patterns found in marble, travertine, wood and sculptural shapes.
A deliberate abandonment of absolute symmetry; Brera is an expressive printed cotton velvet, the pattern of which replicates strokes of pigment rich paint creating an abstract design full of chaos and character. Inspired by print and mark making, each intense layer of paint is captured through meticulous digital print.
‘Brera is a very funky design, but it also adds a certain playfulness or a bit of rock and roll to an interior.’ Dieter
‘When I see Brera, I see the art we use in projects, but I also see the link with images from our inspiration boards. When we first started the design process, we had an image of a colour gradient with paint samples going from dark red to pink. And I feel like Zinc really helped us capture this and translate it in a way that became very usable in an interior.’ Patricia
